We are nine games into the season (for the Indians anyway) and the bottom two teams in the AL Central are the Indians and Tigers. Not what most would have predicted.
The Tigers finally got into the win column against the Red Sox last night and actually scored a few runs. The Tigers have been outscored on the season by 24 runs (22 RS, 46 RA)! Their pitching has been terrible and their hitting has been just as bad. The 1,000 run offense is on pace for 445 runs and will need to average 6.35 runs per game the rest of the way to make it to 1,000. Only the atrocious San Francisco offense has scored fewer runs. They definitely need Curtis Granderson back.
The Indians have also had their struggles. They have also given up more runs then scored but the surprising part of that is that their bullpen has been so bad. The Indians bullpen thus far has a 5.40 ERA (10th in the AL) which is even worse than the Tigers' pen (3.99 ERA). The starters have been good (4.00 ERA, .245 BAA) and the offense has been middle of the pack. Only nine games into the season the bullpen will figure things out and the Indians will defend their AL Central title.
