If you like offense...

Then last nights game probably wasn’t for you (and maybe you should just stay away from Indians games all together). C.C. Sabathia shut down the Twins offense; going nine, striking out five and giving up five hits. He pitched as good (or better) than he has at any point this season. He is only 4-8 on the season but the offense has not helped him out at all. This Yahoo! Sports article says C.C. has only received 2.1 runs per game in his last nine starts; not a big surprise his record isn't real stellar right now.

While Sabathia was the story of the game, the biggest thing for me was the continued hot hitting of Ryan Garko. Garko went 2-4 on the night with the games only RBI. Garko is now hitting .436/.489/.590 in the month of June, after the putrid first two months (.228/.324/.361) of the season. If we are going to have any chance to make a run this summer we need to have more then just our leadoff spot hitting with authority.

In an effort to turn the club around I have broke out my lucky Indians hat. It is old, raggedy and long since been retired from my everyday hat rotation, but thus far we are 2-0 since I brought it back. It is just what the team needed and I am sorry it wasn’t brought out sooner.

With the win we pulled within one game of the Twins for second in the Central as well as gaining a game (now 7.5 out) on the White Sox, who lost 6-4 to the Tigers. We’ve got Paul Byrd going today against Nick Blackburn, hopefully we can continue the winning.
